Hi,

One customer of mine is suddenly getting this error when he tries to run our
VFP application. It has been working fine for the past 2 years.

They have uninstalled the product, rebooted and installed it again and it
hasn't resolved the issue.

Any ideas?

Thanks

From the customer

During installation I got the same error message but at the top it had

Hi Tom:

A C0000006 error indicates that VFP was not able to properly read a file.
A C0000006 error can indicate some kind of hardware I/O failure.

What operating system are they running? Are they using a network? Are
they using Terminal Services?

If the app is running over a network, try copying everything locally and
trying it again. Does a simple "Wait Window" exe run on the machine?

You might want to download Filemon from www.sysinternals.com and get a log
file on the machine when you try to start the application.

I hope this helps.

The application is running on XP Pro locally installed in c:\ drive.

I'll try the filemon and see what it tells me.
thanks

Who wrote that last bit about installation failing? Did that come from your
customer?

If installation failed, all bets are off.

It was working fine, then when he was running the vfp app it started
displaying the 'application failed to init..." error. So I asked them to
uninstall and reinstall the application.

So the message about installation failing is from your customer?

I'd ask them what changed. VFP can't find its resources, obviously. Did they
recently install something that fiddled with their environment? Did they
delete files (like the VFP runtime files) that they shouldn't have been
messing with? Did someone add permissions restrictions?

If your app can't install, it certainly won't be able to run.

Re-read the OP. The message from the customer says the installation failed.

If the installation failed, OF COURSE the application will fail to load.

Sure, but that error first happened *before* the reinstallation
on an app that had been working fine for two years. There is another
factor involved.
