Dear Vixens and Reynards:

Considering that this newsgroup lives all over the Net, why can
we not just continue using it after Microsoft decomissions it? rmgroup
commands are likely to be ignored by most USENET servers.

IOW, do not leave until you know that there is no one else here.

Sincerely,

Gene Wirchenko

I may not understand nntp that well, but I don't think it will be usable
after ms pulls the plug on the msnews.microsoft.com server.

I'm concerned that the feelings of the users here are splintered to the
point that this community won't survive... some have noted other
existing groups, some have indicated they will go the windows live route.

I'm going to keep the door to http://groups.google.com/group/FoxPro for
a while on the assumption that the absence of this forum may renew
interest in the alternative.

NNTP originated much like XCOPY. All posts on a server were copied to
other servers. That evolved to more complex replication over time but
it's still a pretty simplistic technology.

The problem with simplistic replication is when the mothership (in this
case msnews) goes away, everyoe attempts to replicate with nothing.
Nothing wins eventually.

Other servers don't *need* to respect RMGROUP messages when the
mothership goes away.
