it appears that microsoft has already shut down most of its newsgroups.
so far, that means that one cannot subscribe at "msnews.microsoft.com"
directly. but the news server itself is still running.

however
these groups are still existing because of the other peer news servers
like google groups and "news.eternal-september.org"
and other news servers.

it appears that users are still able to post and people on these other
servers could still see the postings.

while one might think this impossible if the mother ship is gone,
perhaps we dont need them.
or that may end once they finally shutdown msnews.

propagated amongst all the major usenet farms, and a lot of minor ones.

Huh...you are right...the microsoft.public.fox* newsgroups are no longer
available on msnews. I use giganews, and never noticed anything changing.

But do we need them anymore? Fox is dead, and this newsgroup has been
dying for a long time. How many people used msnews to access it, and
don't even know how to find it on other usenet servers?

It's another sad day for the mighty Fox...
