Dear Vixens and Reynards:

.selectonentry behaves badly for me with empty dates. The
selected area only extends to the last formatting character. Suppose
that I use set date ansi. I will see (hyphens showing selection):
[10.06.28] [ . . ] [ . . ]
-------- ------ --------
Yes No Want
I have never seen this mentioned by anyone else. What do you do about
this?

Date entry behaves poorly overall, imo. Write a control with drop
downs & be done with it.

What is the problem with this "short" selection? To me, it is a purely optical
problem. Or is there something you have to handle differently in every day use
than you would do, if the whole field were selected?

Well, yes. That is what it is, an appearance problem. It is
sloppy.
