Hi guys,

I've successfully installed Microsoft's NNTP Bridge last week and just
posted my first post using it. So far so good.

I've seen some familiar names there and for those of you who refuse to
crossover into the forums, I hope you let us know where you go before this
newsgroup get shut down. Hopefully you won't let Microsoft shut you down too
;-).

ED.

Would you be so kind as to post your impressions with respect to the
relevant speed compared to using an nntp newsreader?

In addition, any observations with respect to system requirements and
residuals when not using the bridge software.

If I may I ask, ED who and who "us" is... i.e. are you an [MSFT] persona?

Hi Beverly,

The NNTP Bridge only takes up approx 1.6MB in Program Files. It basically
runs as a service creating a local news-server on your computer that
connects to the forums. You add this local news-server to your newsreader
and you're good to go. The messages are stored by your newsreader (not by
the NNTP Bridge) and I don't notice any significant speed difference.

You use your newsreader to read and post just as before. (Only you need to
have the bridge running.) You even connect to other forums the same way, by
"subscribing" to them in your newsreader.

You should try it. After you get over the NNTP Bridge icon sitting in your
system tray, you won't notice any difference between the current news-server
and the NNTP Bridge/Forums.

Seems like a reasonable solution to me.

By the way, I don't work for Microsoft. I'm just a VFP developer like most
people here. By "us", I was just trying to pose a general question on behalf
of everyone who enjoys this thread and the lovely humor that pops up every
so often.

I'll keep an eye out for you on the forums (through the NNTP Bridge of
course!)
